Turgut Meteorite – an meteorite ferroso da Turkey The Turgut meteorite is an meteorite ferroso that is not assigned to any known chemical group, as its composition does not correspond to any of the commonly classified groups of meteorite ferrosos. In terms of its internal structure, it is a fine octahedrite con well-developed pattern di Widmanstätten. This structure clearly indicates formation through very slow cooling conin the metallic core of a differentiated asteroid. The totale known mass of this meteorite is approssimativoly 152 kg, making it a relatively limited and collector-attractive find. Discovery and history The meteorite was found in 1999 in Turkey, in the Konya region, duanello routine agricultural work. The massive iron esemplare was plowed up da a depth of approssimativoly 30 cm below the surface. After its discovery, it entered private ownership, where the owner attempted to cut it and treated the surface con a corrosion-protection agent. The meteorite was then stored outdoors for approssimativoly ten years in a hot and dry garden environment. Only later was its existence noticed by a Turkish meteorite collector, who informed academic and research institutions, leading to the meteorite Turgut being entered into scientific records.
