Oued Chebeika 002 Meteorite – Carbonaceous Chondrite da Marocco Oued Chebeika 002 is a newly discovered CI1 carbonaceous chondrite, found on June 6, 2024 near the village of Abteh in Marocco. The total weight of the fragments reaches 418 grams. The fragments are black, fragile, and irregular, with surfaces speckled with white grains up to 1 mm in size. Some samples show traces of fusion crust. When broken, they reveal a dark interior with finely dispersed iron sulfide grains. A type esemplare weighing 22.7 grams is stored at CEREGE, the European Center for Research and Education in Environmental Geosciences in France. Altro fragments are held at Arizona State University (5g), University of Washington, Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture (6g), and the University of New Messico, Institute of Meteoritics (4g). Material is also with private collectors, including Jean Redelsperger, Luc Labenne, Mark Lyon, Ziyao Wang, and Jeremy Bassemon. The Oued Chebeika 002 meteorite is highly valuable for scientific research due to its primitive nature and composition, considered to be the closest to the original solar nebula. Its analysis offers valuable insights into early solar system conditions.
