It forms through the very rapid cooling of volcanic lava, which prevents the crystallization of minerals. The result is a natural glass with a smooth, often shiny surface. Obsidian from this area is usually dark black, sometimes with a slight brownish or grayish tinge, depending on trace elements and the chemical composition of the original lava. Origin and History Jambi province is known for its volcanic activity and rich geological history. Local obsidian was traditionally used for making tools and weapons due to its hardness and the sharp edges formed during flaking.
