NWA 869 Meteorite – L3-6 Chondrite with breccia structure from the Sahara The NWA 869 meteorite is an ordinary L3-6 chondrite, discovered in 2000 in an unknown location in the Sahara Desert. The total mass of recovered fragments is approximately 2 tons, with individual samples ranging from a few grams to over 20 kilograms. This meteorite is unique because it is a breccia, meaning it is composed of fragments of various types of chondrites and contains chondrules, metallic particles, and other inclusions. Due to wind erosion, the fusion crust has been removed or smoothed on many samples, resulting in deep erosion marks on the surface.
