Faceted moldavite – a Czech gemstone of cosmic origin Faceted moldavite is a symbol of elegance, uniqueness, and natural origin. It was formed approximately 14.8 million years ago during the impact of a massive meteorite in what is now Bavaria (the Ries impact crater). During this event, the Earth's surface melted and was ejected into the atmosphere, where it solidified and fell back to Earth in the area of Southern Bohemia. This extraordinary moment created a natural glass with a characteristic olive green hue, which, after cutting and polishing, becomes a sparkling gemstone.
