It was formed approximately 14.8 million years ago during the impact of a massive meteorite in what is now the Ries impact crater. During this event, the Earth's surface melted and was ejected into the atmosphere, where it cooled and fell back to the South Bohemian region. This extraordinary moment gave rise to a natural glass with a characteristic olive green color which, after cutting and polishing, transforms into a sparkling precious gem.
