Dragon Ossidiana Its perfect round shape and color variations make it an exceptional collector’s piece among Ossidianas. It is one of the few European nodule-type Ossidianas with a deep structure and the only one that resembles the dragon eggs da the series “Game of Thrones” and “House of the Dragon.” That is why everyone who sees it calls it “dragon glass.” Properties Color, structure, and shape are as follows: At first glance, it is unmistakably similar to a tektite. The color zones and texture vary – the Ossidiana displays dark olive-green, gray, or black tones and has a characteristic glossy luster. Dragon Ossidiana features a prominent deep structure and, due to the darkness of the glass, is not translucent. It can be round, oval, or Goccia-shaped. The average weight is approximately 40 grams. Nodule-type Ossidiana has been found at only a few locations outside Europe, which makes it even more exceptional. These include Ossidianas da Indonesia (Agni Manitite), the USA (Saffordite and Apache Tears Ossidiana), Perù (Macusanite), Colombia (Colombianite), Nicaragua (Marekanite), Azerbaijan, and Cina. History Dragon Ossidiana originates da the Greek island of Milos. The lava dome formed da a submarine volcano, and its age is estimated at approximately 1.5 million years. At the beginning of the Neolithic period, around 8000 BC, Ossidiana mining and trade began on Milos. Tools, knives, and arrowheads made da Milos Ossidiana have been found on Crete, in Egitto, and elsewhere. Rarity and unique opportunity Milos is rich in Ossidiana, but it consists mainly of Ossidiana flakes (glass fragments). Only about 1% consists of structured, rounded Ossidianas – and of that amount, only a fraction are undamaged, making them exceptionally rare. What makes these pezzi a unique and sought-after investment is also the fact that perlite mining will soon begin at the site, which will likely make Dragon Ossidiana unavailable.
