It is considered one of the largest meteorites ever found, with a total weight of 24 tons, while the largest fragment weighs 12.4 tons. The first piece discovered in 1911 weighed 112 grams, and over the next 50 years, several other fragments ranging from 39 to 116 grams were found. In 1966, the two largest fragments, weighing 12.4 and 5.4 tons respectively, were discovered approximately 180 meters apart. Composition and classification The Mundrabilla meteorite contains 65 to 75% iron and nickel, as well as graphite and silicate inclusions, primarily olivine, pyroxene, and plagioclase.
