This extraordinary meteorite was found in the Ouargla region of Algeria and belongs to the recently classified lunar meteorites. Origin and formation of the Ouargla 008 meteorite The Ouargla 008 meteorite was formed during the powerful impact of another cosmic body on the surface of the Moon. This collision released fragments of lunar rock that were ejected into space. After a long journey through interplanetary space, some of these fragments finally reached Earth, where they were subsequently discovered. Lunar meteorites therefore represent the only way to obtain authentic lunar material without the need for a space mission. Brecciated structure and composition Ouargla 008 belongs to the so-called brecciated meteorites, which means that it is composed of various rock fragments bonded together into a single compact mass. It mainly contains anorthositic components, typical of the lunar crust, as well as darker mafic rocks such as gabbro. This combination makes the meteorite a valuable source of information about the various geological processes that occurred on the Moon. Appearance and characteristics In cross-section, the Ouargla 008 meteorite shows a strong contrast between light and dark areas. The lighter parts correspond to the original lunar crust, while the darker matrix was formed during the subsequent melting and solidification of the material. Thanks to this structure, each piece is unique and visually very fascinating.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"PeltramMinerals","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":58027713954117,"sku":"MEOU34","price":114.25,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0881\/1659\/2965\/files\/75345_lunar-meteorite-ouargla-008---0-9g---algeria.jpg?v=1779377657","url":"https:\/\/moldavite.it\/en\/products\/lunar-meteorite-ouargla-008-09g-algeria-meou34","provider":"Moldavite.it","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
