These patches are formed by mineral crystals such as quartz or tridymite, which develop through gradual crystallization in the originally homogeneous obsidian. Formation Like common obsidian, snowflake obsidian also forms through the rapid cooling of silica-rich lava. This process creates a glassy structure lacking a crystal lattice. Over time, some areas of the obsidian begin to crystallize, forming small spherical structures called spherulites. These mineral inclusions appear visually as white or light grey patches resembling snowflakes, hence the name Snowflake Obsidian. Characteristics Snowflake obsidian generally has a black color with distinct white or grey patches. Its hardness ranges between 5 and 5.5 on the Mohs scale. The structure is amorphous and glassy, but in some areas, it shows zones of partial crystallization. This type of obsidian is found in volcanic regions around the world and is particularly well-known in Indonesia.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"PeltramMinerals","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":58028671238469,"sku":"VO029","price":99.23,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0881\/1659\/2965\/files\/39533_photoroom-019-20250406-101128.jpg?v=1779384540","url":"https:\/\/moldavite.it\/en\/products\/javan-flake-obsidian-254g-java-indonesia-vo029","provider":"Moldavite.it","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
