This mineral is characterized by its typical purple color, which can vary from delicate light lavender shades to intense and deep violet tones. The coloration of amethyst is caused by the presence of trace iron in the crystal structure and the subsequent influence of natural radioactive radiation during its geological development. Prolonged exposure to intense sunlight can, however, cause a gradual fading of the original color.\nCabochon and its use in jewelry\nA cabochon is a specific type of cut that is facet-free, but has a smooth, rounded and polished surface. This processing method enhances the natural color, pattern and internal structure of the stone. Amethyst cabochons are very popular in jewelry production, where they are mainly used for rings, pendants, earrings or bracelets. Thanks to its hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale, amethyst is durable enough for everyday wear.\nFormation of amethyst\nAmethyst forms by crystallization from hot, mineral-rich solutions that penetrate rock cavities. Crystals grow on the walls of these cavities and form druses. If the cavity remains partially empty, a geode is formed. In some cases, these cavities can reach considerable dimensions, especially in Brazilian deposits, where impressive geodes several meters in size can form.\nAmethyst localities\nThe most important amethyst deposits are found in Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia and Madagascar. Each locality produces stones with slightly different shades and characteristics. The highest quality and darkest amethysts mainly come from Uruguay and Brazil, particularly from the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Significant deposits are also found in Madagascar, Zambia, Russia, Sri Lanka and Mexico. Beautiful crystals have also been found in Europe, for example in the Alps and the Urals. In the Czech Republic, amethyst is known from areas such as Kozákov, the Třebíč region and the Ore Mountains.\nHistory and meaning of amethyst\nIn ancient times, amethyst was already considered a stone of protection, calm and spiritual balance. Its name comes from the Greek word \"amethystos\", meaning \"not drunk\", as it was traditionally associated with protection from negative influences.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"PeltramMinerals","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":58028113494341,"sku":"AMK03","price":22.63,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0881\/1659\/2965\/files\/72980_amethyst-cabochon---bolivia.jpg?v=1779380325","url":"https:\/\/moldavite.it\/en\/products\/amethyst-cabochon-bolivia-amk03","provider":"Moldavite.it","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
